Birth of MATI
February 1, 2013 Therapeutic Indulgence opened its doors in South Bend. We have always strived to be South Bend’s premier massage and wellness center. Our business has grown rapidly in seven years, now offering many services including massage, acupuncture, esthetics, skin care, counseling, hypnotherapy, and yoga.
Growth has created the demand for more massage therapists. Research shows that there is a lack of massage therapists in our community and our country due to several factors. First, there are not many schools in the South Bend region, and limited schooling means a limited number of opportunities for interested students. Second, the career span of many therapists has been cut short due to inappropriate and incomplete training, which often leads them to burn out mentally and/or physically. This may be caused by anything from not using proper body mechanics, to being unable to give appropriate treatments based upon their clients’ chief complaints. Therapeutic Indulgence intends to change that.
Mission/Philosophy
MATI students can expect to have access to the best education available, along with a support network and foundation that will give them increased potential for a career expanding past the normal few years.
MATI will teach not only the basic fundamentals of massage therapy, but graduates will also leave with knowledge that many massage therapists have to attend other continuing education courses to obtain. We will teach business and communication skills, as well as anatomy and physiology terminology so that students have a clear understanding of the medical atmosphere, allowing them to seamlessly transition into a career working alongside Chiropractors or understand communications from a physician, client, or physical therapist.
“Employment of massage therapists is projected to grow 22 percent from 2018 to 2028, much faster than the average for all occupations. Demand will likely increase as more healthcare providers understand the benefits of massage and these services become part of treatment plans.”
