My MATI

I was born and raised in Iceland and moved to the United States when I was 23. I had a difficult childhood, that ended up with me getting emancipated as a young teenager. I didn’t want my traumatic past to define me or what my future could hold. I finished college and continued working in the service industry while going to university. I was overworked, exhausted, and lost. I felt I had no purpose. Clearly, I needed a change. So, in search of a new adventure and a fresh start, I moved away to the United States to study massage. I had no idea how drastically it would end up changing my life.

I found my calling at Northern Arizona Massage Therapy Institute (NAMTI) in Sedona Arizona in 2006. NAMTI was a great school that introduced me to many diverse massage modalities, as well as a variety of fantastic instructors.  For the first time, I experienced what a healing touch was and how medicinal massage could be. Touch was always connected to my past trauma and I always had a difficult time with it, but my massage education opened my eyes to what a gift it can be, if used properly.

I fell in love with the United States during my year of school and became really close with a family here in Northern Indiana, where I eventually moved after graduation. Indiana is quite different from Arizona, but I loved it and soon felt like home. A few years later I got my citizenship, got married, had my daughter and started Therapeutic Indulgence.

I am now the president of Massage Academy at Therapeutic Indulgence as well as the owner of Therapeutic Indulgence.  I am a Licensed Massage Therapist (LMT) and additionally a Manual Lymph Drainage Therapist (MLDT) and a Certified Lymphedema Therapist (CLT).  I believe in the power of massage and education; both have the ability to change lives.

Opening a massage school started as a dream. Over the last couple of years, my management team and I have worked diligently on making it a reality. In the 7 years of my business, I have enjoyed training new therapists (many of which were fresh out of school), gained a great clientele, and watched TI grow to be what it is today. I know how much my life has changed for the better with this career and how fulfilling it has been, so I want to share it with others. I have always enjoyed helping people and love to see individuals better themselves and find a purpose in life.  Therefore, I am so proud to open Massage Academy of Therapeutic Indulgence, where students are welcomed, encouraged, and inspired to become mindful, confident, and compassionate therapists who are comfortable with all skill sets when they graduate.
