Pre-Requisites

The state of Indiana requires that a licensed massage therapist holds either a high school diploma or GED at the time of the application for a Massage Therapy State License. Students who don’t currently have a Highschool diploma or GED at the time of application, will need to provide proof of current progression of obtaining one these requirements. Please see Admission section for further details.


Admissions Requirements

All prospective students must submit an application via the website, or a hard copy can be printed and mailed. The application process is free of charge.

Applicants must be 18 years of age or be 18 at the time of completion of the required 762 hours.

Applicants must be prepared for all the aspects of the massage industry. Potential students must be aware that the massage profession requires skin on skin contact with clients of every possible background. In conjunction of the hands-on aspect, there are many items to be studied such as ethics, communication, anatomy and physiology.

Applicants must show completion of a high school education or certificate of GED. If applicant is in process of completing their high school or GED education, they must submit documentation showing potential graduation date, school/program attending information and a signature from authority from that program. No massage certification can be awarded to an individual without a high school diploma or GED. If this is a hurdle for a prospective student, they are encouraged to contact MATI to get information on how to pursue this education requirement.

Applicants who may have a felony conviction must be aware that they may be ineligible for an Indiana State Massage Therapy License. Potentially affected students are encouraged to contact the Indiana State Massage Therapy Board before signing a letter of intent. MATI will not be held responsible for anyone not granted a massage therapist license from any state due to a felony conviction.


Application Process

Prospective students can obtain an application by contacting MATI at 574-520-1664 or by printing and completing the application here. Completed applications can be submitted at any time during the year.

Applicants will be required to complete an in-person interview with the Educational Director and/or the President. Applicants who live outside a 90-mile radius of MATI can opt for either a video conference or telephone conference call. The interview process is a time for the school to meet and greet the potential student and is to answer any questions that a student may have. This is a time to review the school’s policies, procedures, student handbook, fees and expectations.

The prospective student will be contacted within two weeks of their interview with a letter of acceptance/enrollment agreement or a letter of refusal. The letter of acceptance will give details of when the students classes will begin, deposit requirements and letter of intent. The Enrollment Agreement must be signed and deposit of $100 must be postmarked by the date given in the letter of acceptance, or a late fee of $50 will be assessed. Those who receive a letter of refusal will be given details of the decision and possible recommendations that can be made to achieve enrollment.
